Family Activity 1 - Character Introductions
Students are participating in a space colony at school these next three weeks and we would like your student to share his or her character with you at home! As the story and colony develop over time, so should your child’s character. Please ask your 5th grader to introduce his or her character to you and continue the conversation with the following questions: qHow old is your character?
qIs your character married? Does your character have a family or kids?
qWhat was your character’s favorite subject in school?
qDoes your character draw, play a musical instrument, or play sports?
qWhat is your character’s favorite food?
Have your student draw his or her character below:
Family Activity 2 - Our Solar System
Tomorrow we will be investigating our planet’s solar system. Before we begin that discussion, please sit down and brainstorm what you and your student know about our solar system and our planet Earth. For example, you may want to discuss what characteristics make Earth a livable place for humans: the presence of water and oxygen. Write down as many things as you can relating to this topic and please have your student bring this list with them to class tomorrow!
Family Activity 3 - Household Rules
Rules govern our world both in and out of school. What are some of the rules in your household? Did you make them because of a specific incident, or are these rules more universal? Please review some of these rules with your student as a preface to our lesson on the role of government in making rules, and why these rules are important to our community. Use the space below to have your student write down at leastthree household rules and why these rules are important.
