We are so pleased to tell you about our upcoming unit in social studies. The unit is called, “Creating a Constitution: Space Colony,” and is adapted from Storypath. The 5th graders in E-1 and E-3 are going to embark on an exciting mission through outer space through this imaginative and challenging curriculum. While in space, the students will learn about how government works and will be responsible for writing a constitution of their very own. Students will learn about the planets in our solar system through a series of hands-on science investigations. Finally, the 5th graders will have an opportunity to create a collaborative and creative frieze depicting their space colony’s design and layout. The students’ handouts will be focused on teamwork, civic competence, art, science, writing, and critical thinking. We will even be sending some activities home to do as a family! As the family activities go home with students, we will also make them available on this web page (just in case the space dog eats your student’s homework).

Estamos muy contentos de informarles sobre una nueva unidad en la materia de Estudios Sociales. La unidad se llama "Construyendo una Constitución: Una Colonia en el Espacio," y ha sido adaptado de Storypath. Por medio de este programa de estudios imaginativa y retadora, los estudiantes del quinto grado en E-1 y E-3 emprenderán un viaje emociante al espacio exterior. Allí aprenderán cómo funciona el gobierno y tendrán que escribir su propia constitución. Además, aprendarán sobre los planetas y el sistema solar a través de una serie de investigaciones cientificas interactivas. Finalmente, los estudiantes del quinto grado tendrán la oportunidad de crear una pintura colaborativa y creativa representando el diseño de su colonia. Las tareas que damos en clase destacarán el trabajo colaborativo, el ser buen ciudadano, el arte, la ciencia, la redacción, y el pensamiento crítico. También les enviaremos actividades a casa para que las hagan como familia. Podrán encontrar estas actividades con su hijo/a o en nuestra página web (por si se las come el perro marciano).
